The Western Australian State Flag (1870)

The emblem of the Swan River settlement, the black swan, dates from the 1830s. It received government recognition in 1870, when a gold disc featuring the swan on a blue Ensign was raised as the flag of Western Australia. The black swan is also featured on the coat of arms of Western Australia.
